PADI Asia Pacific TecRec Team at OZTEK15

PADI Asia Pacific exhibited at the 2015 OZTEk 15 conference on the weekend of the 14 & 15 March in Sydney, Australia. The show was great success and the Asia Pacific TecRec Team took the opportunity to present 2 Seminars over both days.

On the Saturday, 14th March PADI TecRec Instructor & Instructor Trainer Update was well attended with 20 PADI TecRec Members who gave positive feedback as we reviewed changes & developments since the last OZTEk 13 conference 2 years prior. The PADI Sidemount & Tec Sidemount diver manual, the user  packable scrubber standards changes & the creation of the Rebreather Training Council received a particularly good response. During the PADI TecRec Instructor & Instructor Trainer Update, TecRec Instructor Trainer Kevin Black (Kiwidiver S-22141) received an award to recognize his contribution to TecRec training in 2013-14.

It was good to see the following Members attend: Kevin Black #629827, Pierre De Villiers #619563, Maxime Dupont #980495, Stephen Knox #102373, Dan R. Macherel #485520, Peter D. Mesley #63339, Jamie Miller #489102, Rubens A. Monaco #103375, Grant B. Searancke #452457, Trevor L. Smith  108240, Michael J. Whitmore #471855.

On the Sunday 15th March the PADI TecRec Course & Career Opportunities presentation was well attended. Both here and on the booth the  PADI Asia Pacific TecRec Team fielded enquiries from existing tec divers & tec Instructors looking to continue their technical training  with PADI TecRec as well as fielding general questions about TecRec training.

The PADI Asia Pacific TecRec Team took the opportunity to attend some of the  presentations at the conference too numerous to mention all here but a popular favorite were Prof. Simon Mitchell’s fascinating & revealing presentations on Oxygen Toxicity during long decompressions & the provocative 5 Minute Pre Breathes: a sensitive test for CO2 scrubber problems; or a waste of time.

Richard Evans

The show was wrapped up with the gala dinner during which PADI Asia Pacific Manager of Risk Management Richard Evans was presented with an award to acknowledge  his outstanding contribution to Risk Management in the Dive Industry. The award was presented by Prof. Simon Mitchell who described Richard’s dedicated efforts to increase the safety of diver training and the scuba diving industry over many years.
